Amy Votaw Palmer, CNM
joined Partners in Health in January 2007. She is a Certified Nurse Midwife with accreditation through the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She was born at Dearborn County Hospital and grew up in Aurora, one of five sisters and one brother. She graduated from South Dearborn High where her interest in science led her to pursue a career in healthcare. She earned her registered nurse diploma at The Christ Hospital. As a staff nurse at St. Luke West Hospital in Florence, Ky., she worked in the Birthing Center and liked the experience. She also worked three years in the Birthing Center at Dearborn County Hospital. She continued her education while working and earned her bachelor of science in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University, a certificate in nurse-midwifery from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing, and eventually a master of science in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She served on the staff of two private practice medical groups, most recently as one of six nurse midwives at St. Luke Nurse Midwives in Florence. Palmer and husband Tommy, her high school sweetheart and a wealth management advisor with Huntington Investment Company, live in Lawrenceburg with their two daughters, Lilly and Haylee. When time permits, they enjoy playing golf.
“I knew after nursing school that I wanted to pursue an advanced nursing career. I’m a people person and being a nurse midwife allows me to develop a long-term relationship with patients and be part of what is one of the greatest moments in their lives. I’ve seen this first hand because both of my daughters were delivered by a nurse midwife. And I see it when I’m out in the community … I love when I see a patient at Kroger’s and she tells her child that “this is the midwife that delivered you.” The nurse midwife field is growing … more than 10,000 in the U.S. My practice focuses on healthy patients with normal pregnancies and routine gynecological care.”
